ABBYY seems to recognise some landscape pages as two portrait pages when importing from another pdf. To avoid this, we just have to be really specific as to what we want the app to do.

Select Add Pages to Document from the sidebar and select Add from PDF...

Select the original document and which specific pages you wish to import

This has the effect of importing the pages as they are formatted in the original document.
